Time to Freeze Organic Strawberries

Posted on | April 24, 2012 | 4 Comments

It’s that time of year when the strawberries are abundant. Today, I’m hanging in the kitchen with music in the background and organic strawberries in the foreground. There is nothing better than knowing you have organic strawberries in the freezer for “We Slept Too Late – Last Minute” breakfast smoothies.

I wish I could share a recipe for our smoothies, but we don’t have one. We use whatever we’re in the mood for or have on hand. I usually throw in strawberries, Greek yogurt and/or hemp milk, a frozen banana, almond butter, flax oil (yes flax oil, the kids have no idea), a handful of green (spinach, kale, romaine, etc.), and again, whatever is in the house. Grace loves mangos, papayas, kiwis, peaches, cantaloupe… The other kids enjoy fruit, too, but not like Grace. You name it, it can go in.

I can not get my kids to enjoy smoothies like your kids do….can I borrow your kids? Better yet, you can borrow my kids and have your kids teach them:)

You have berries already?! Ours are still waiting to ripen.

I have to tell this story about smoothies. Yesterday, I made a peach-banana-greek yogurt smoothie and poured my daughter’s portion. Then I added flaxseed meal to the rest for me and my husband. While I was rinsing the blender, my girl grabbed one of the glasses with flaxseed meal, took a sip, and declared “this is the best smoothie ever!” I hesitated whether to tell her but she took the news well and wanted flaxseed meal in her smoothie today too!

Rachel – that is awesome. I know what you mean, I often hesitate with letting them know what really in there unless they have the same reaction as your daughter!!
